Latest news: new characters and local multiplayer

postviernes

Hello, guys! We’re back one more Friday to let you know the latest BMX The Game development news produced here at Barspin Studios. This week we will talk about new playable characters and local multiplayer mode we’re working on.

Characters

As many of you may have seen last Wednesday from our social networks, one of our artists is now working on making new pedestrians for the city. Today we bring you another exclusive: we are not only working on pedestrians, but we are also creating new playable characters.

We are preparing two new characters (boy and girl) for the new version. They are still in development, so right now we cannot show you more details of them. We will show them to you more in depth as we move forward.

Multiplayer

As you know, BMX The Game is primarily focused on the social component and the multiplayer feature. But today we are here to speak about a multiplayer aspect that is becoming less and less used: the local one.

We are working on the multiplayer split screen so you can play with your friends on a single PC. One of the main goals that we want to achieve is to allow you to compete with your friends in real time and play in new game modes that are being designed for this mode.

This is a huge effort that requires many calculation and optimization tasks, but it is currently going as expected. Down below we show you a preview of what we currently have*.

That’s all for now. Let your impressions and comments below! Happy weekend!

*Disclamer: work in progress. This does not represent the final quality.

Latest news: prop placer, contest winners…

ssss

We’re back one more Friday to let you know the latest BMX The Game development news produced here at Barspin Studios. This week we will talk about the prop placer tool we’re working on and we will reveal the three winners of the  latest contest we’ve done.

Prop placer:

First of all, as you know, there is already a prop placer feature included in the game (pre-alpha version). Having said this: when we are around the city, what will we find in the game city? Many objects, obviously. There are objects (props) that are fixed (lampposts, traffic lights) and others that can be moved (containers, pallets, fences …). These objects can be moved at any time by the player as he pleases, always respecting the physics. On the other hand, whenever the player wants, he  also will be able to spawn any object and place it where he wishes as long as the player owns it in the inventory.

So, important question: how to fill that inventory? Unlocking objects as you’ll find them in the city. When we make a structure (using many props), we can save it as a single object to keep it as well as post it or share it so other people can rate it, download it and/or use it.

Moreover, there will be another small props editor, which will allows us to make small constructions made from planks and wood posts. With an extra feature:  constructions are physical (have a mass and weights, so you can not do crazy things like make them float, for example). This also allows the prop placer to move objects at any time the player wants in the game.

Backstage pictures:

In case you didn’t see through our social networks, we remind you the lastest dev team pictures we posted this week. The left one show us Virginia, the team’s architect, making the entire city of Barcelona for BMX The Game on AutoCAD. On the right picture we have Carlos, one of the programmers, working on the city builder (internal tool we spoke about last week).

Contest winners:

Finally, let’s announce the three winners of the lastest contest we did on Twitter and Facebook. As you may remember, to participate you only needed to post some screenshot from the latest pre-alpha version that suits on one of these categories: best trick, best fail and best photographic composition.

So, let’s reveal the winners of an account upgrade.

Latest news: city builder, giveaway winners…

concursocamisetasjulio

As we promised, we’re back one more Friday to let you know the latest BMX The Game development news produced here at Barspin Studios. This time we will talk about the city generator and we will reveal the two winners of the giveaway we have done this week exclusively for pre-orders.

  • City builder. On one hand, one of the tasks which is spending the most of our time is the city builder. It is an internal tool that allows us to generate buildings in a procedural way while respecting Barcelona’s architectural rules. It is not an easy task: there are more than eighty neighborhoods, each one with its own characteristics. That is why we are training the system to build it. There are many pieces that we have had to model, but it is a huge programming task too. It may seem waste of time a priori, but it is an investment, because in the end  it will allow us to generate a huge and diverse city while saving many hours of work and staff once this tool is finished. Let us show you a screenshot.

  • FAQ and community videos. On the other hand, we remind you that since last week we have a new FAQ updated with new questions that many of you ask us daily. Do not forget to take a look at it on this link. Also remember that you can send your videos (from the latest alpha version of the game) via FB and Twitter. We’re  posting the best videos on the blog every Tuesday.

  • Backstage pictures. We have seen that you liked the backstage picture from the dev team working on BMX The Game we published this week, so we’re posting more of them every week through our social networks. Stay tuned!

  •  Giveaway. Finally, we announce the two winners of the exclusive giveaway for pre-orders. The two BMX The Game official t-shirts are @dennisandree and @daxmarshall. Today we will contact you so we can send you the gifts. We want to keep making up for your loyalty, so for the next weeks we will keep giving away some BMX The Game merchan  (and we’re also preparing some contests) in order to make the wait more pleasant until the release.

That’s all for now. Let your impressions and comments below! Happy weekend!
